Place the tool for locking the sprocket (303-1151) in the access hole and rotate it clockwise to lock the sprocket in place. The only way you will get it going is to use a hand primer, prime the system from the filter, then connect the other end to pipe between fuel filter and fuel pump. Prime until primer bulb is hard, get an assistant to start the car whilst priming primer bulb and it will start assuming there is nothing else wrong.

Afternoon all. Up sh*t creek and could do with some advise. Changed fuel filter on mother in laws car. Mondeo 1.8 tdci. Topped it up with fresh diesel, bled air out the system. But still won't start. Tried turning the ignition on and off for 5 minutes. Still nothing. Just a dead battery.

Mondeo mk4 cutout, now won't start 2.0tdci. Over took a car and mine cut out with the 'engine malfunction' message appearing. Got recovered, put my code reader on, but no codes to display. As the fuel filter hadn't been changed for at least 40,000 miles I changed it and bled the fuel system with a vacuum pump. Still no start, fuel rail pressure
The usual fault is the module fitted to the top which stops comms between PCM and pump causing non start i.e P1664 'FIP requesting reduced fueling mode'. DI obviously is a rotary pump which supplies injectors with a timed delivery of fuel, injectors not fired electronically like you quite rightly say. 2008 Ford Mondeo, Diesel - starting problems.
